Berkshire lose skipper to the school run
BERKSHIRE will be without skipper James Morris for their Unicorns Championship match against Wiltshire at Falkland CC starting on Sunday (11am).
He has commitments at the school where he teaches.
So brother Richard will take over the captaincy as Berkshire look to make it back-to-back wins following their 212-run trouncing of Wales Minor Counties at Abergavenny last week when the Henley batsman scored 205 in the first innings.
However, he was not alone in making a double century as on the same day Steve Bullen was smashing 205 for Wiltshire against Dorset at Corsham.
Wilts went on to win by 218 runs, and that leaves them just two points behind Berkshire, the Western Division leaders after two games.
In addition to replacing James Morris, head coach Tom Lambert will be forced to make other changes to his side.
Andy Rishton, who crashed 146 off 88 balls for Loughborough Town two week ago, will return having missed the Wales game, while young paceman Ethan Bamber is also in line for a recall providing he is not required by Middlesex seconds.
Duty with Surrey 2nds is expected to rule out Henley’s Euan Woods, while club colleague Jack Davies will probably have commitments with Wellington College.
Berkshire’s second team continued their good form with wins over their Wiltshire and Oxfordshire counterparts.
On Wednesday last week at Corsham they posted an impressive 303-9 in 50 overs with Finchampstead’s Billy Rogers hammering 140 not out, before skittling out their hosts for just 105.
Then at Abingdon Vale on Sunday, they restricted Oxfordshire to 190-9 before going on to complete a two-wicket triumph with two balls to spare. Finchampstead’s Craig Hodges ended the game unbeaten on 24, having earlier taken 2-32 from eight overs, whiile Wokingham teenager Archie Carter top scored with 49 from 92 balls.
Berkshire Women have two County T20 Division 1 games on Sunday, playing Yorkshire (10.30am) and leaders Warwickshire (1.30pm), both at Harrogate.
