VOLUNTEER CORNER

- With Helena Badger

The Lively Living Club run by Age UK Reading offer clients an opportunity to meet up with friends as well as have a nourishing meal.

Their Woodley Club is run at Alexandra Place in Woodley every Friday.

The volunteer role will include setting up, welcoming clients as they arrive, preparing and serving hot and cold drinks, serving meals and ensuring the venue is clean and tidy when the group is finished.

Volunteers must be friendly and caring, have a flexible attitude and being with older people. Commitment is needed from 10am-2pm on Fridays.

Do you have an hour or so to spare each week? Maybe you are recently retired? Perhaps your children are at school?

Maybe you are not in employment and would like to keep busy while you are looking for your next job? Maybe you work shifts and would like a voluntary role which can fit around them?

If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then the Wokingham Transport Scheme needs you! All you need is your own car – expenses are reimbursed.

The Scheme provides low cost transport for the elderly to hospital, local doctors, dentists, opticians, and physiotherapy – and also occasional social trips or shopping. It provides an essential service to clients who live in Wokingham, Barkham, Finchampstead and Winnersh.

Shinfield Rangers FC are a youth football club that focuses on child development rather than football itself. They are one of the few top-tier kite marked FA Charter Standard Community Clubs in Berkshire.

In 2018/19 they plan to start football sessions for the disabled and in 2017/18 Walking Football for the over-50’s, and expand beyond their new single adult team. The local population is set to double in the next few years so they are growing rapidly and urgently need more volunteers to help.

They are particularly in need of a Club Secretary, Club Treasurer and a Coach/Team Manager. No prior football knowledge is needed – appropriate training, support and mentoring to help will be provided.
