Binfield trail in title race

-

BINFIELD look set to miss out on the Division 1 title after defeat to Harpsden on the penultimate weekend of the campaign.

Going into Saturday’s fixtures, Binfield sat five points clear of secondplaced Wraysbury, but they are now trailing by 19 points and must beat Taplow to stand any chance of winning the league.

Binfield were put in to bat against Harpsden but got off to a shocking start, losing their first three batsmen, Sean Ennis (6), Chris Morgan (8) and Steven Carson (1), cheaply.

Eddie Lee (23) and Matt Hayman (33) did at least give the leaders something to defend, but 142 always looked like a chaseable total. And so it proved, but only just.

Two quick wickets from opener

Tom Andrews gave Binfield hope, while Ian Goddard posted superb figures of 5-36.

However, Harpsden stumbled across the winning line in the 53rd over with just one wicket in hand.

That defeat, coupled with Wraysbury’s win, leaves Binfield with it all to do this weekend.

In Division 2, BINFIELD 2s sit third after thrashing Amersham by 193 runs.

Batting first, the visitors closed on 309-4 before bowling out Amersham for 116.

They host Holyport for the final game this Saturday, still chasing a top two spot.
