O’Connor the victor in finals

MARTIN O’CONNOR from Wokingham Bowling Club was victorious in the final of the Berkshire County Men’s Unbadged Singles.

O’Connor took on Harry Walmsley from Caversham and battled from behind to edge to a 21 shots to 20 victory to clinch the WAJ Murray Cup.

Elsewhere in league action, Wokingham rounded off their Berkshire Floodlight campaign with a win for the A team, but defeat for the B side.

O’Connor won his singles game for the As, while Andy Franklin and Bob Thompson were successful in the pairs.

The triples game also yielded a win courtesy of Terry Oakes, Alan Painter and Jim Rudd, and the overall 77-61 success over Maidenhead Town secured second spot in the league.

The B team lost 48-82 to Maidenhead Town B, despite a big win for Brian Chinneck and Gerry Deeves in the pairs.

WOKINGHAM ACORNS ended their Thames Valley Ladies League season on a high with a 68 shots to 30 win over Caversham.

They won on all three rinks, skipped by Anne Parker, Shirley Dutton and Lillian Holliday.

In a men’s friendly, Wokingham saw off Woodley 81-39 with rink wins for Rudd, Pat Cleary, O’Connor and Thompson.

Wokingham also hosted London Irish Bowling Associatio­n for the annual Paddy Keelty Trophy match, winning 98-72 with the top rink skipped by Paul Graham along with John MacGregor, Claude Linnell and Chinneck.

Wokingham Ladies travelled to Hurst, losing 47-43 despite a rink win skipped by Averil Aylott, and the ladies were also beaten 41-25 by Great Hollands.

The season ends this weekend for THREE

MILE CROSS with the internal club competitio­ns. They begin at 12pm on Saturday and 11am on Sunday with spectators always welcome.

Three Mile played a series of friendlies this week, including a defeat to the vice presidents team from Suffolk.
