Wokingham Horticultural Show

- PAULINE MACBRAYNE

OUR Autumn Show, with it’s bumper harvests, will be here on Saturday.

As always we are looking to attract more exhibitors, especially younger ones, and would like lots of visitors to the Show, which takes place at St Paul’s Parish Rooms, Reading Road from 2pm4pm. Entry is £1 for adults.

Show entries need to be with us by noon on Friday 8 September and can be sent via email to wokhortass@hotmail. co.uk.

For the under eights there’s a picture to be coloured in (which can be obtained from the WHA Trading Store in Ormonde Road), a collage of fruit and vegetables made from cutup magazines, and gingerbread men to decorate.

For the 816’s a hedgehog made from recycled materials, a miniature garden in a seed tray and brownies to bake.

There is a carrot cake recipe in the domestic section and gentlemen only are asked to bake a cornish pasty.

There’s also plenty of scope for fruit, vegetable and flower growers, especially dahlias, also flower arrangers.

We’ll also be selling homemade refreshments, running a plant stall, selling cakes, local honey and eggs and holding a raffle.

We have a lifesize ‘Donald Trump’ scarecrow that was awarded Highly Commended in the Hurst Show on 19

August and will be running a competition to discover which US State he is visiting.

Deputy Borough Mayor, Cllr John Kaiser, will present the prizewinners with their cups at 3.45pm.
