DUO JAILED OVER VICIOUS ATTACK AT HOME
TWO men who forced their way into a Lower Earley home to attack a man with baseball bats have been jailed. Last Friday, Alan Evans, aged 29, of Staverton Road, Reading, and Carl CserfalviYoung, aged 37, of The Meadway, Tilehurst, both received eight-year prison terms from Reading Crown Court. In a statement, Thames Valley Police said that the duo were each found guilty of one count of aggravated burglary by a unanimous jury at the same court on Friday, February 2. It follows an incident at about 5am on Saturday, January 21 last year. Evans and CserfalviYoung forced their way into a home in Faygate Way, Lower Earley. The two offenders were both drunk and used baseball bats to attack their victim, a 37-year-old man. He was hit twice to the head and once to the back, leaving him with serious injuries including a head wound which required 10 stitches. He also sustained a golf ball-sized lump to his head, cuts and bruises to his face and severe bruising to his spine. The attack also brought about cardiac issues that required a short recovery period on a cardiac ward. Evans was charged on June 1 last year, while Carl Cserfalvi-Young was charged on October 11 last year. Investigating officer PC John Daltrey, of the Investigation Hub at Loddon Valley, said: “This was a vicious and unprovoked attack that left the victim with serious injuries and requiring treatment in hospital. “The attack took place due to a personal issue between Evans and the victim. “This violent behaviour will not be tolerated and the substantial prison sentence given to both the assailants should act as a deterrent to others.”
