Sun shines on Donkey Derby
MORE than 3,000 people are expected to take part in a village’s annual tradition this weekend.
Members of the Twyford Scout groups are organising a donkey derby which will take place on King George V Memorial Field behind Loddon Hall on Sunday afternoon.
The donkey derby will comprise six races around a specially created course, the winners of the heats will then come back for a final race to determine the overall winner.
The riders will be aged between 10 and 15 and have all volunteered to take part on the day itself.
The Scouts will organise a tote, so visitors can try and pick a winner and take home some winner themselves.
As well as a series of fun races for all ages, there will be a host of attractions including a performance by the Maidenhead Concert Band, a dog display, a fun fair and stalls providing a mixture of games and products. Children will enjoy a free craft tent while adults will want to visit a beer tent.
Churches from Twyford also gave out 200 bottles of water.
And if that wasn’t enough, there will be a light aircraft flying over the festival field dropping packets of crisps for children to catch as they come down.
John March, chairman of the 1st Twyford Scouts, said: “I am pleased to say we enjoyed yet another successful Donkey
Derby helped by brilliant weather.
“The large crowds meant we made a significant contribution to group funds which helps keep our subscriptions some of the lowest in the area.
“However, it also provided an excellent afternoons entertainment for the residents of Twyford which reinforces the Scout’s position as an integral part of the local community.”
