Wokingham reach quarter-finals

WOKINGHAM are into the quarterfin­als of the County Mixed Double Fours following a 35-27 victory over Reading.

Malcolm Giles along with Tom Searle, Anne-Marie Murray and

Jill Thorne defeated their Reading rivals 22-10 before John Scowen’s rink went down 17-13 in a tight contest.

The overall win sets up a last eight showdown with Maidenhead Town.

In the same competitio­n, SUTTONS are also into the last eight following victory at Windsor and Eton while WOODLEY overcame Maidenhead Thicket to progress.

The quarter-finals commence on June 17.

WOKINGHAM also progressed in the Benevolent Triples with a tight 15-14 win over HURST.

The game was level heading into the final end but a fine display from Bob Thompson, Colin Livingston­e and Mike Duggan ensured the one shot win.

Woodley are also through to the last 16 following victory over Desborough and Suttons eased past Wargrave but

TWYFORD and MAIDEN ERLEGH were beaten.

In league action, incessant rain led to the abandonmen­t of games for Wokingham B and C, but Wokingham A did complete their match.

Competing away to Bracknell in Division 1, Wokingham were beaten 83-70, despite rink wins skipped by John Scowen and Bob Thompson.

Maiden Erlegh’s B team edged out Bracknell 7-3, led by captain Keith Boulter while captain Clark Balague could not prevent an 8-2 loss for the A team against Suttons.

In the Kennet LV Over 55s league, Wokingham A took on Twyford and battled back to win 55 shots to 47.

Wokingham B lost out 6939 against Bracknell A while Wokingham D were beaten 57-43 at home against Great Hollands.

Meanwhile, Wokingham Acorns edged past Maidenhead Town 43-42 in Thames Valley Ladies League Division 1. The highest winning triple for Wokingham was Sandra Thompson, Elaine Herbert and Jill Thorne.

Wokingham Oakapples travelled to Island Bohemian in Division 3, losing 59-40.

Wokingham also played in two friendlies, losing 108-94 at Woodley while Wokingham Men travelled to Suttons for the first leg of the Jim Clarke Trophy, winning 95-73.

Also in friendly action, Maiden Erlegh, captained by Stan Hughesdon, beat Reading University 82-69.
