VOLUNTEER CORNER
The British Red Cross provide help in the community and part of that is their Medical Loan service.
They provide mobility aids for a short-term loan such as wheelchairs walking aids bathing aids so people can live independently in their own homes. They need of Volunteer Van drivers who will collect a van from Reading and drive to Wokingham and/or Bracknell to collect mobility aids such as wheelchairs and the drive to their depot in Crawley to unload and replace with new stock.
After a lunch break in Crawley, the volunteers will the drive back to Bracknell and Reading to unload stock. This would take place on a Thursday between approximately 9.30am and 4.30pm, although the finish may be earlier depending on stock and traffic.
Volunteers will be part of two-man team. They must be a competent driver and be able to lift a wheelchair.
VoxSkool are a local charitable organisation which promotes health and well-bring through the use of music and singing in groups and one-to-one sessions. They are looking for volunteers to help with their Fun2Sing Carer’s Choir which meets in Wokingham on Tuesday afternoons.
The role will involve giving lifts to carers who need transport, to and from the venue in Wokingham, general support during singing sessions such as handing out and collecting lyrics, possibly making refreshments for carers and occasionally organising events/helping with some admin when needed.
Volunteers should be caring, flexible and friendly.
Norwood is the largest Jewish charity in the UK and supports vulnerbale children and adults with learning disabilities. Norwood is their Berkshire home, based between Wokingham and Crowthorne and is home to approximately 140 adults with learning disabilities. The home is fortunate enough to take on regular teams of employees from corporates and other local companies and they are looking for volunteer help to support these groups of volunteers.
They need a volunteer gardener and a volunteer painter and decorator who have professional experience in either area, to help assist with their corporate volunteering days. These will usually take place on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and/or Thursdays on an ad hoc basis, so the volunteer will be required as and when needed but probably three to four times per month on average.
