Special event for new teachers
NEWLY Qualified Teachers (NQTs) from secondary schools across Wokingham borough met together last week for a special training session.
The staff, all in their first year of teaching, gathered at The Piggott School in Twyford for the event, where they explored Behaviour For Learning.
When the new term started earlier this month, there were 55 newly qualified secondary school teachers. Each of them was welcomed at the event by the Piggott’s headteacher, Derren Grey.
They were then given a series of top tips on how to keep youngsters engaged in lessons from experienced Maths teacher, Jeremy Crawley.
Split into subject groups, the teachers were then able to discuss the start they have made in their respective schools and to share effective strategies they are using in the classroom.
Assistant headteacher at The Piggott School and event organiser, Alex MacLeod, said: “The NQTs in Wokingham are very fortunate to be offered such a high quality course during their first year of teaching.
“Feedback tells us how much they appreciate it and how they see it contributing considerably towards making them outstanding teachers.”
Wokingham schools Federation manager Julian Bushell added: “We were delighted to welcome so many NQTs to Wokingham.
“Many will be staying in the area for the whole of their careers and this course helps give them the best possible start.
“And, who knows, perhaps there is a future Headteacher among this year’s intake?”
