BRIAN’S HAD HIS CHIPS!
LUNCHTIMES at a borough theatre have been given a makeover thanks to a new chef.
And the Mill at Sonning is so confident in the revamped menu that it is offering a new home dining service for dinner parties.
The Waterwheel Bar’s new offerings include something for everyone, be they carnivores or vegans.
At a special preview event, attended by Mill director and awardwinning actor Brian Blessed, guests were treated to a taste of three of the dishes created by Kieron Daniels.
It is available from noon to 5pm from Tuesdays to Fridays and includes Steak Sandwiches and a Salmon Niçoise Salad. Desserts include Sticky Toffee Pudding, Crème Brûlée and Warm Chocolate Brownie.
Mr Blessed loved the fish and chips so much that he was happy to pose with them for photographs.
Here’s what we made of the sample dishes:
The Butternut, Ginger And Coconut Soup is a thick, velvety broth that slipped down far too easily. A bright warm orange colour and garnished with watercress, it was a tasty dish.
A Beetroot And Apple Puree platter offered carefully cut pieces of beetroot drizzled in the puree.
And the Beer Battered Fish And Chips was light, fluffy and crisp, just as it should be. A golden colour, the batter melted in the mouth, while the fish was tender and moist.
The accompanying chips were crisp on the outside but deliciously fluffy inside.
There are other dishes on the menu, which will change regularly.
The Mill’s new dinner party catering service aims to give would-be chefs a night off, instead letting them concentrate on the entertaining.
Those using the service call the The Mill to book, and let them know how many to cater for, then the meals are made at The Mill ready for collection.
The enhancements to The Waterwheel Bar will add a delicious reason to attend some of The Mill’s regular events including a book club, a knit and natter group and a children’s storytelling session.
