Binfield bashed by Bishops

Binfield 0 Bishops Cleeve 1

BINFIELD’S mixed start to the campaign continued with a narrow defeat at Hill Farm Lane.

Following a string of cup games, the Moles finally returned to league action for the first time in almost a month.

But they could not add to their points tally as Bradley Martin’s first-half strike proved to be enough to hand Bishops Cleeve the win.

Roger Herridge made four changes from the side which beat Bourton Rovers last time out with Gary Smith, Jeff Brown, Sean Moore and Ian Davies coming in for Lewis Leonetti, Will Shaw, Carlo Santoro and Eddie Lee.

The deadlock was broken in difficult conditions on 20 minutes when Martin found himself free to head in.

Plenty more chances followed with Binfield goalkeeper Chris Grace called into action while at the other end Sean Moore kept Grace’s opposite number Lewis Clayton busy.

The hosts began the second half well, particularly following the introduction of winger Santoro from the bench.

But Cleeve also threatened, penning the Binfield back-line deep at times, forcing them to head an effort off the line.

Herridge introduced Jemel Johnson and Danny Horscroft late on, but Binfield could not find an equaliser despite the best efforts of Moore.

Still with plenty of games in hand, the Moles sit 14th in the table with a long trip to Lydney Town to come on Saturday (3pm).

BINFIELD: Grace, Thomson-Wheeler, Smith, Brown, Tuttle, Withers, Knight (c), Senussi (Santoro 53), Moore, Howell (Horscroft 74), Davies (Johnson 67).
