TAKE PART AND RAISE FUNDS FOR ALZHEIMER’S SOCIETY

ALZHEIMER’S SOCIETY SUPPORTERS RUTH LANGSFORD, SALLY LINDSAY AND LINDA ROBSON ARE LEADING THE CALL FOR WOMAN&HOME READERS TO UNITE AGAINST DEMENTIA BY TAKING PART IN THE CHARITY’S ANNUAL MEMORY WALK FUNDRAISING EVENT.

WITH DEMENTIA SET TO BE THE 21ST CENTURY’S BIGGEST KILLER, THE TRIO OF TELEVISION STARS HAVE RALLIED BEHIND THE CHARITY, WHICH IS URGING FAMILY, FRIENDS, COLLEAGUES AND FURRY FOURLEGGED FRIENDS TO UNITE AGAINST DEMENTIA THIS AUTUMN.

THIS YEAR, MEMORY WALK AIMS TO RAISE £9 MILLION NATIONALLY AND BRING TOGETHER MORE THAN 110,000 WALKERS ACROSS THE GENERATIONS AT 34 WALKS THROUGHOUT ENGLAND, WALES AND NORTHERN IRELAND – INCLUDING THE

FIRST EVER NIGHT WALKS IN LONDON, MANCHESTER AND CARDIFF.

ALZHEIMER’S SOCIETY IS COMMITTED TO SPENDING AT LEAST £150 MILLION OVER THE NEXT DECADE ON DEMENTIA RESEARCH TO IMPROVE CARE FOR PEOPLE LIVING WITH DEMENTIA AND HELP FIND A CURE. THE ONLY WAY THAT DEMENTIA CAN TRULY BE DEFEATED IS BY MORE PEOPLE THAN EVER COMING TOGETHER TO SUPPORT ALZHEIMER’S SOCIETY AND FOLLOWING THE EXAMPLE SET BY RUTH, SALLY AND LINDA IN SIGNING UP TO TAKE PART IN THIS YEAR’S SERIES OF MEMORY WALKS.

Loose Women AND ITV’S This Morning PRESENTER RUTH LANGSFORD, WHO LOST HER DAD, DENNIS, TO DEMENTIA, AND IS AN ALZHEIMER’S SOCIETY AMBASSADOR, TOLD W&H:

“There’s nothing like Alzheimer’s Society’s Memory Walk because it’s one of those extraordinary events that leaves you not knowing whether to laugh or cry. There are people like me, of all ages, who are walking in memory of loved ones who have developed dementia and that is truly moving. But Memory Walk is also extremely uplifting because people are uniting against dementia and that gives me hope that a cure can be found for a devastating condition.”

FORMER Coronation Street STAR SALLY LINDSAY, WHO RECENTLY APPEARED IN THE ACCLAIMED DRAMA Murdered for Being Different, AND WHOSE LATE GRANDMA, ELLEN, HAD DEMENTIA, SAID:

Alzheimer’s Society Memory Walk is important because it not only raises vital funds for research but also shows that more and more people across the country are united in the fight against dementia.

“Sadly, I know from personal experience that dementia doesn’t care who you are; it could affect us all. It’s time to come together to walk towards a cure, improve care and transform understanding.

“Someone develops dementia every three minutes, and there is currently no cure, but Memory Walk makes me confident that together we can beat it.”

Birds of a Feather STAR AND Loose Women PANELLIST LINDA ROBSON, WHO LOST HER MUM, RITA, TO DEMENTIA, ADDED:

I’m a big fan of Alzheimer’s Society Memory Walk, and it means a lot to take part in them because the way people come together from all walks of life shows that no one is alone when dementia enters their lives. It is a daunting fact that someone develops dementia in the UK every three minutes but Memory Walk is a chance to unite and walk for your family and friends affected by dementia, and for future generations so dementia doesn’t win.”

MARIE AIR, THE MOTHER OF TV PRESENTER DONNA AIR AND WHOSE LATE FATHER, JOE, DEVELOPED ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE, TOOK PART IN THE TYNESIDE MEMORY WALK, AND SHE ADDED:

“The fight against dementia is a cause that is really close to my heart and that’s why Memory Walk is such an inspirational event. People turn out in force to remember loved ones who are or have been living with dementia, and they also feel passionate about raising money for Alzheimer’s Society.”

ALZHEIMER’S SOCIETY CHIEF EXECUTIVE, JEREMY HUGHES, SAID:

“Alzheimer’s Society’s Memory Walk is going from strength to strength each year, which is just as well because with dementia set to be the 21st century’s biggest killer, we must unite more than ever to show dementia we are no walkover.

“While dementia can devastate lives, every pound raised by Memory Walk will help Alzheimer’s Society provide information and support, improve care, fund research and create lasting change for people affected by dementia. Until we find a cure, we will keep walking so dementia doesn’t win.”
