Woman&Home Feel Good You

New glamour & confidence

The most beautiful thing you can wear is confidence

What makes YOu feel confident? Success at work? the love of family and friends? Or a great dress, sexy shoes and swishy hair?

For me it’s all of the above because self-esteem comes from not just looking but also feeling your best – and that’s what this issue is all about.

i can’t wait to try the new season trends and love the way our fashion team always explain how eVerYOne can make them work – see how four readers do grown-up Boho beautifully on p84.

my instant beauty pick-me-up is red lipstick – it’s amazing how just putting some on can make me stand taller. this month our lovely Beauty director Jo GB and her expert panel have tested over 500 new products (lucky them!) to reveal the w&h a-List Beauty t awards (p97). Congratulations to our winners – these buys will make you feel glamorous and confident, and confidence is the most beautiful thing you can wear.

i also loved daisy mae’s hilarious diary of a midlife dater (p50), which brought back memories of my own terrible first dates. all with men who looked nothing like their profile picture and employed shoe lifts to make them look taller (either that or they’d resolutely sit down all night). thankfully, like daisy, i’ve now met a wonderful man who makes me feel confident and happy every day. So if you’re putting yourself out there, good luck, stick with it and remember to insist your date stands up when they say hello! Plus if you need a last-minute confidence booster, read our Life edit on p41.

One of the most important things when it comes to self-esteem is to be kinder to ourselves. i spend far too long feeling guilty about the things i haven’t done rather th than th celebrating lb ti the th things thi i ih have. So i identified with cover star Hermione norris when she said, “You’re the only person you have to spend the rest of your life with, so get on your side of the fence and be your own best friend.”

Hermione is back on our screens as Karen in Cold Feet and says selfdepreciatingly that she thinks Karen is so much cooler than she is. But i’m sure after reading entertainment editor nathalie whittle’s fantastic interview with her on p12, you’ll beg to differ.

Finally, if like me, you can’t wait to see how the new Strictly stars get on this year (good luck ruth!), and would love to learn to dance like them, join w&h on our dance down the danube river cruise. See how you can get on board on p130.

enjoy the issue,
