Woman&Home Feel Good You

THE POSTCARDPERFECT SEASIDE TOWN

-

Sue kittow, 60, lives in a ground-floor flat in falmouth and writes books about cornish walks. She was widowed seven years ago. My hOME i moved from london to Cornwall when i met my husband, Pip, in 1996. he was living on a boat and there wasn’t enough room for the two of us, my computer and the cat. i’ve stayed on in this flat after Pip died – i think it has the most beautiful view in the world, across the Fal river to Flushing and st mawes.

My WORk i used to work in tV but a local magazine was looking for people to write about Cornish walks. After a while, i felt i had enough material to write a book but i had a few rejections. one day, soon after Pip died, i was sorting through his clothes when i heard the ping of an email. it was a publisher saying they would print my first book. that was in 2011; my fourth book, Walks in the Footsteps of Daphne du Maurier (sigma Press) is published this month. My cOMMutE All my walks are circular, so you could say my commute is too. i decide a route and head out with a friend, my dog and a picnic. i take a tape recorder with me and record notes about who we meet – and where we get lost! My favOuRitE placE i’ve travelled all over Cornwall but my favourite place is right here in Falmouth, walking through the fields and with a view of the sea. BESt thing aBOut living hERE i can sail, walk and explore such a range of landscapes, from craggy coastline to moorland. i love looking out of the window in the morning, seeing what’s going on in the harbour.

My cOMMunity i sing in a choir. it’s great to be part of something so uplifting. What i DO in My DOWntiME i go to exhibitions at art galleries. i love the cinema, so will often meet friends for a film and a glass of wine. And i go sailing with friends on their boat. What MakES ME happy i miss my husband a lot but walking and being outside makes me happy.
