City How to work the CITY LOOK
Bring a little of the city buzz home with a colourful modern mix. Embrace the vibrancy that city living offers – light, colour and form are key to a city-inspired scheme. Keep walls soft-coloured or white, then add colour and character with furniture, soft furnishings and artwork. Geometric or abstract patterns bring interest.
1 Looking for a city colour palette? Interior designer Sophie Robinson says to go for ‘clean shades, like a bright red, a cobalt blue, a crisp yellow’. She adds, ‘A city look is about being really strong, confident and statement-making.’
2 Create your own unique art gallery on the wall behind your sofa. Try hanging in panelled sections to ‘contain’ different-sized pieces uniformly.
3 Try accents of brass or dull gold to add a touch of luxe. Taps, furniture legs and even photo frames can add shine and definition.
4 Be strong with statement pieces. Hero lighting is an easy place to start, adding pops of colour and conversation-making style.
5 Add modern loft-living style to your floor with a colourful rug. Go as large as you can for impact.
6 ‘When it comes to pattern, leave botanicals behind and go for geometric prints in high contrasting colour palettes,’ says Sophie. >>
