1 THE CLIFF HOTEL AND ROCKHOUSE HOTEL, NEGRIL, JAMAICA

The Caribbean is home to hundreds of sunshine islands, but the fourth biggest (and arguably one of the best) is Jamaica. Here the answer to everything is “no problem” and it’s almost impossible not to relax because everyone is so chilled-out. Plus, the annual average year-round temperature is 27 degrees – no one can argue with that!

w&h used Jamaica’s beautiful scenery as the backdrop for this spring’s main fashion stories and the lush island will look stunning in your holiday pictures, too. Avoid the touristy side of the island around the capital Kingston and Montego Bay, and head for the quieter coastal town of Negril.

We stayed at The Cliff hotel, which, as its name suggests, is set on a cliff with breathtaking views of the crystal clear Caribbean sea below. Accommodation is a mixture of villas and suites, and each generously sized room has an enormous (and very comfy) bed. But the Jamaican touch we loved was the fact each balcony or porch includes a hammock to have an afternoon snooze in.

The award-winning Zest restaurant serves incredible seafood – order the snapper. Wellness is taken seriously here so there’s daily yoga in the oceanfront pavilion, or you can be pampered in the Kiyara spa, where the massage beds face the sea.

If you’re looking for a hotel with a more laid-back vibe, the Rockhouse near The Cliff is a perfect alternative. Accommodation at this boutique property comprises hexagonal stone rooms with thatched roofs, bamboo beds and bright flower prints on the bedspreads. There’s a great choice of weekly classes and activities, too, including Caribbean cooking, Zumba and even Bob Marley portraiture classes! Plus, there’s no better place to go snorkelling on the island – the turquoise waters of Pristine Cove are teaming with tropical fish and coral.

If you don’t fancy going under the water, explore the coast on top of it instead on a Dreamer Catamaran cruise (dreamercatamarans.com).

Boat trips cost from £70pp and you can be sure the sun will set to the sound of a Bob Marley hit… Samantha Rnic THE COST The Cliff (thecliffjamaica. com) has junior suites from £138pp per night. Rockhouse (rockhouse.com/ escape) has rooms from £72.50pp per night. For more information about Jamaica, see visitjamaica.com
