when ali waterworth’s six-month-old son, ruddi, developed a rare cancer, it took a huge toll on the family. a charity provided them with a much-needed holiday – which gave ali the idea of starting ruddi’s retreat. an eightberth specially adapted caravan at primrose valley holiday park in filey, north yorkshire, opened in 2012, and the lottery has helped them buy a second. around 250 families have taken a holiday so far.
