HRT in focus
Until recently, hormone replacement therapy (HRT) seemed to provide the answer to short-term symptoms, such as hot flushes, night sweats, mood swings and a dry vagina. It was also seen as a protector against longer-term risks, such as heart disease and osteoporosis.
Today, following the results of a number of studies, it seems rather t than being a cure-all, HRT can i increase the risk of breast cancer a and may not protect the heart. It h has now been recommended that H HRT should be prescribed only in t the lowest dose needed and for t the shortest possible time – if at all.
