Make a list of small behavioural changes
Use this time to figure out how you want to change your behaviour during confidence-zapping situations. Think about the scenario – when relationship problems threaten or when you have to give a presentation at work – then decide what you could do or say to be more assertive. Use the “If… then” format to outline your intentions. So you could say, “If I’m in a interview, then I will spend more time looking the interviewer in the eye.” Or, “If I need to be more assertive in a meeting, then I’ll think of five things I want to say and write them down.”
