Bloke at the back Kevin Bacon
He may be a movie superstar, but actor Kevin is still so down to earth…
Kissable Kevin
Kevin Bacon may be 58, but he still has the boyish appeal that propelled him to fame in the 80s. Here, the dad-of-two talks to us about poking fun at himself in EE adverts, his new series I Love Dick and his 28-year marriage to actress Kyra Sedgwick, 51.
I realise I’m lucky to have a long marriage, especially in Hollywood. i’m a romantic. i don’t remember not being in love – ever since i was a boy, i had love and sex on my mind. Those things are important to me, so i suppose that has sustained me.
my son, Travis, 27, is in a band and my daughter, Sosie, 25, is an actress. i’m very proud of them. acting’s a hard profession – it’s especially hard for women to be judged on the way they look and in Sosie’s case, being judged on being the daughter of well-known parents. You need the strength of character to push on through. Luckily, i think Sosie has that.
working with Tom Hanks on Apollo 13 was awesome. me, Tom and the late Bill Paxton were a close-knit group because we were in the spacecraft filming for hours. not many people know this, but Tom’s a space nut – he could’ve probably flown that aircraft if he wanted. He’s a geek!
when I was told I had to wear Britney Spears’ red suit [for the EE advert], I went on Youtube to watch the video because I hadn’t seen it. i was like, ‘You’re gonna put me in that?’ But when it comes to making fun of myself, if i think it’s funny, then i don’t really worry about it.
actors who say they don’t want to be famous are not telling the truth. You don’t choose to be an actor to hide in the shadows – you want to perform and be seen. actors want to be successful, and success and fame tend to go hand in hand.
