Kelly Brook did and it didn’t have the desired response. But what happens when we take a U-turn on tradition?

There was a time when, as far as tradition went, women would only dream of proposing in a leap year, on 29 February. But this February (which only had 28 days, FYI), model Kelly Brook revealed she’d asked her partner Jeremy Parisi, 32, to marry her while on holiday in antigua.

‘We were up at Shirley Heights and I said to Jeremy, “Will you marry me?”’ recalled Kelly. Only, she didn’t get the response she’d been hoping for – he turned her down. ‘He said, “Be quiet, there are people around!”’ she explained. ‘It wasn’t private enough.’

While Kelly, 38, has said she doesn’t feel taken aback by his rejection, for some women it could be devastatin­g. And yet, a recent survey reveals one in 10 of us has asked their man to marry them. With some of us going further saying that woman should buy their own engagement ring! But is such a romantic role reversal really such a good idea? We investigat­e…
