SHOULD I LOSE WEIGHT?

-

QI’ve never been skinny. My parents used to say I had ‘big bones’, but whatever the reason, I’ve been hefty all my life. My husband said he loves me for myself however I am. But the problem now is that I have pain in my knees and hips and my doctor says I am at risk of diabetes. What holds me back is the fear it will let the fattists win.

AWhat holds you back is the understandable anxiety about having to change your habits. Losing weight means overhauling your eating patterns and putting exercise into your life, and that works best if your family support you, if not take part, too. Saying ‘it means the fattists have won’ is an excuse. Yes, be loud and proud of yourself and love your own body, but when that threatens your health, it’s not a sensible stance.
