WHY RISK IT?

-

People are having serious procedures like liquid Brazilian bum lifts in their lunch hour and finding out that it’s not quite what they thought it was going to be. You’d perhaps think that when they walk into the ‘clinic’ and it doesn’t resemble a healthcare setting of any kind, they might be put off. But for some, apparently not. And for a lot of people, their research into having half a litre of hyaluronic acid poured into them? Google. And a bit of Facebook and Insta.

And yet, these treatments can be incredibly dangerous, not all practitioners offering them are bona fide healthcare professionals, and the results can be frightening.

One woman, Bonnie Louise Cooper, booked in for a £1,500 high-street treatment in Essex. While having filler injected into her buttocks, she discovered that the ‘relatively painless’ procedure was utterly agonising. By the time she got home she was already in the grip of infection, which turned out to be life-threatening sepsis, so had to be rushed to hospital by ambulance. Thankfully she recovered and has had the filler dissolved. But she found out the hard way that it should never have been done in the first place.

So the message to anyone thinking of going down this route is – DON’T. Last summer, it emerged that complaints about non-surgical bum lifts and breast enhancements had risen tenfold as more and more people had them. The reason? They are relatively cheap.

Ashton Collins, who runs a register of accredited non-surgical treatment practitioners called Save Face, has called for the procedures to be banned altogether.

She warned, ‘It’s a new and incredibly dangerous trend which has emerged from social media. All the cases reported to us have been carried out by non-healthcare practitioners who have prioritised profits ahead of the safety and wellbeing of clients.’

If that’s not enough to put people off, I don’t know what is. A rounded bottom is not worth risking your life for. Anyone that desperate to firm up or improve their buttocks needs to get to the gym and work those glutes. Get squatting.
