-

Did you ever think the show would reach such a landmark?

It’s amazing. I do feel proud and I never thought I’d be here doing the 1,000th episode. Long may it reign! Each day is different, but the success is down to the casting.

Can you see in the contestants’ faces just how much they want to win?

definitely. I want them to win and I like it when they beat The Chasers – who don’t like losing.

What are the secret ingredients to the show?

The format is exceptional, the speed of it, and it’s informative. Most of all, we have a laugh.

What makes a good contestant?

Anyone who’s good at quizzes. It especially suits an older person because they have such a breadth of knowledge. I love it when a young player comes on and they know the answer to questions like, ‘who played Reggie Perrin?’

How does it feel to be one of the country’s most popular quizmasters?

Aw, thank you. I love it. I’m so fortunate to be part of this.

Do you like doing quizzes?

I do. I play along in my head and get excited when I know the answer.

How do you get on with the Chasers?

I really like them. I have a laugh with Shaun especially. He’s grumpy but is also the nicest man. Anne has a great sense of humour and Jenny knows a lot about video games and bands. Paul is into a rt while Mark is the maths g enius.

What’s been y our highlight?

The question abo ut Fanny [Bradlesking Chmelar y couldn’t stop laughing after a a question about the german sportswoman]. It was a turning poi nt. Three and a half million watc h it now.

Which celebrity would you love to have o n the show?

david Cameron . He needs the work now!
