We all eloped!

‘It was all about creating a magical day just for us’

-

Brihony Souness, 32, and Jamie, 32, live in Clackmannanshire, Scotland, with son Charlie, two. Brihony has just graduated and Jamie works for a glass manufacturer. My family are scattered all over the world and Jamie didn’t want any bother, so a runaway wedding was perfect for us.

We said our vows on a remote clifftop on the Isle of Skye, with Charlie playing in the heather at our feet and the sound of bagpipes playing via an ipod dock.

The only wobbly moment was when Charlie burst into tears when he saw me walking towards him in my unfamiliar white wedding dress. At that stage we all had to break off from the formal ceremony and sing The Wheels On The Bus. We stayed in a secluded lodge and the package was arranged for us by photographer Lynne Kennedy, who is based in the Kyle of Lochalsh, near Skye.

The clifftop was quite muddy and boggy – I wore a pair of white wellies with a big bow. Getting married with the wind and the views was incredible. We also had a blessing for Charlie.

Afterwards it was back to the lodge for cheese and wine. In the evening Jamie and I went out for dinner while a local girl babysat for us. The whole package cost £3,000 for three nights. We spent another £1,500 on rings and outfits.

When we told everyone, Jamie’s mum was sad she hadn’t got to buy a hat and my dad was upset he hadn’t walked me down the aisle. Eloping wasn’t about the money for us – although we saved a fortune – it was about creating a magical day just for the three of us.
