Linda’s new booze battle: ‘I’m scared’

Linda Robson opens up about her new booze battle

Linda Robson has made a shocking confession about her battle with wine, saying that she’s scared she might end up on her bottle a day habit again.

The star, who vowed live on TV earlier this year that she was cutting wine out of her life, also confessed to finding the whole process of giving up ‘terrible’ and a ‘hard journey’.

Back in January, Woman’s Own reported that Linda was downing a bottle a night and that friends were worried for the star.

Linda then made the big decision to go sugar-free, which included banning most alcohol, leaving her to sip fizzy water instead.

A difficult journey

But during a recent radio interview, the Loose Woman explained she’s now worried that even having a single glass of wine could see her return to her drinking ways. ‘I had the odd vodka and soda when I went away with my husband for a week,’ Linda said. ‘He said, ‘Are you not going to have a glass of wine?’ I said no, because I’m scared if I do then I’ll go straight back on to it again. I was practically drinking a bottle a night – so this [ban] has done me no harm.’ Linda, 59, who’s mum to Lauren, 34, Louis, 25, and Bobbie, 20, decided it was time to quit her favourite tipple after her Loose colleagues expressed how worried they were for the star. Talking on the show, Nadia Sawalha told Linda, ‘You’re not an alcoholic, it’s just you’ve got into the habit of drinking and it is a lot.’ On another occasion, a sugar-free specialist was brought on to explain to Linda that she was putting herself in danger with the amount of wine she was consuming. This, combined with her family’s concern, spurred Linda on to start her wine ban and sugar-free diet.

But while it’s seen the Birds Of A Feather actress drop an incredible 17lb in three months, she hasn’t found the process easy. ‘I’ve been on a sugar-free diet and I’ve had no wine,’ she said on the radio. ‘It’s been terrible! It’s been a really hard journey. I’ve got people checking my trolley in the supermarkets to make sure there’s no wine in there.’

But she acknowledged that, despite the difficulties, she’s delighted with her new figure. ‘That’s been a good part of it,’ she continued. ‘I feel much healthier for it. I’ve been doing my Fitbit and walking over 10,000 steps every day, so that’s helped as well.’

Keep it up, Linda, you look fab!
