Love him or hate him, there’s no denying that Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan has shaken up mornings across the country with his opinions and controversial comments. We caught up with the former tabloid editor, 52, married to journalist Celia Walden, to chat working with his co-host Susanna Reid and his new series on killer women...
How are you and Susanna getting on at the moment? It’s like an arranged marriage where we’ve been put together without really knowing each other at all and then you just hope it works. We’re so different – I am very opinionated on air and she’s not really. Although she’s increasingly more so.
When was the last time you properly annoyed her? Oh that’s quite regular, most days. Sometimes she’s steaming with rage about things I’ve said. In the breaks sometimes she’ll say, ‘Don’t you…’. I’m like, ‘Calm down, calm down,’ which drives her even more mad!
Tell us about a great night out with Susanna... We’ve had two spectacular ones. We don’t do it very often, we don’t trust each other not to go nuts! She doesn’t drink a lot but when she drinks, she drinks a lot.
Have you ever tried to set Susanna up? She always said to me that her idea of a perfect man was 6ft 2in, military and tattooed. I’m 6ft1in, I don’t have any tattoos but my brother is a British Army officer and he’s got a big panther tattoo on his buttock. So I’m nearly there, I tick a few of the boxes but, as she puts it, never enough.
Killer Women is back. Which of the five women you followed affected you most? They’re all highly dangerous. Some of them affect me because, as a parent, I see a girl who’s 15 years old and part of a love triangle, and she thinks the only answer is to have this kid killed. Some are very intimidating, when you know what they did.
You’re a dad of four – do you think you could forgive your own child for murder? I think your love for a child is unconditional, but you can certainly imagine it being pretty stretched.
