Soap fix: What’s on the box this week
As video evidence emerges, things are looking difficult…
It’s been eight months since Emma Barton pushed her husband James to his death. But this week little Arthur Thomas discovers a video that could change everything! Is Emma going to get caught? Actress Gillian Kearney, 45, tells us more…
Hi Gillian! What happens when Emma turns up at the Thomas’ house this week?
At choir practice Emma notices that Arthur’s not quite right, but she doesn’t think it’s personal. He then confronts her and says he’s watched the video of her trying to manipulate his father, Ashley, after he'd become suspicious of her behaviour. That’s when Emma realises she’s in trouble.
Do you think Emma will be able to talk herself out of it?
Yeah, I think she’s going to try very hard. She’s resourceful and she thinks fast on her feet.
Do you think Emma feels guilty?
She watches the video back and can’t believe what she sees. At that time Emma was in the depths of despair and grief, and she went to see Ashley to confuse and befuddle him in order to keep the boys ignorant of what had gone on. So I think she’s horrified, especially knowing that at the time Ashley was so vulnerable and now he’s gone.
What’s the best thing about playing Emma?
What she’s going to do next! She’s been mischievous and it’s just got
worse and more extreme. I love the fact that inside she’s just a nice person who’s lost her way.
