Behind the headlines: The rise of the horror hens. Are hens now more badly behaved than stags?

As drunk women take over bars and holiday resorts, are hens now more badly behaved than stags?

-

Hen do celebrations have become bigger, bawdier and pricier than ever. And with this new wave of hedonism, some hens are rivalling stags with their crass antics. Bust-ups, brushes with the law and bad behaviour are becoming increasingly common place among today’s female partygoers. Here, we reveal three hen dos that went too far…

‘B*tches on tour’ kicked off flight

As bride-to-be Emma Green, 35, arrived at East Midlands Airport with her 17 hens, she was looking forward to having a good time.

After all, the gang – made up of mostly mums in their thirties and forties – were flying to Majorca for a four-day party ahead of Emma’s marriage. Rocking up at the check-in desk wearing T-shirts with ‘B*tches on tour’ emblazoned on the back, worried airline staff reportedly told them to ‘cover the offensive language’.

Initially, Emma and her hens complied, slinging jackets over their tops and boarding the plane. Only, when their crude ensembles stirred up trouble once again, airline staff kicked them off! The group then had to buy new flights before finally making it to Spain.

Emma says being thrown off the plane wrecked her party. ‘It ruined the experience,’ she says. ‘We did not deserve to be treated like that.’

Jet2 claims that as well as not removing the T-shirts, the hens engaged in ‘rowdy behaviour’. ‘The decision to remove some members of the group wasn’t just about the T-shirts,’ says its statement. ‘It was common decency and a lack of respect for fellow travellers.’ But Richard Branson disagreed. The Virgin boss said he was shocked to hear the hens, who insisted they were sober, had been thrown off the plane – and flew them to Las Vegas for free.
