On her marriage ‘I can’t bear the thought of it failing’

TV star Coleen Nolan has made a startlingly honest confession about her marriage following news of a shock cheating scandal.

The star even went so far as to say, ‘It’s time to move on,’ over fears that staying in a damaged relationship would be bad for her children – something she wouldn’t be able to forgive herself for.

Coleen’s comments came as the Loose Woman reflected on the news that rocker Ozzy Osbourne and his wife Sharon have renewed their wedding vows. The feisty duo recently staged their romantic nuptials at a Las Vegas hotel, despite Ozzy’s confession that he cheated on Sharon with a hairdresser.

Locked in a cycle

Coleen, 52, who’s been married to musician Ray Fensome for 10 years, said remarrying would be the last thing on her mind. ‘I’d have given him his marching orders,’ she declared. ‘For me there would have to be a point where I’d say, ‘I’ve given too many years of my life to this,’ and know it’s time to move on.’

Discussing how shocked she is that X Factor judge Sharon has decided to stay by Ozzy’s side, Coleen continued, ‘Looking in from the outside, it seems they are both just doing the same thing again and again. They’re locked in a cycle they need to break. I wouldn’t want my kids to see my marriage hitting the rocks and not doing anything about it.’

Coleen, who’s mum to Shane Jr, 28, Jake, 24, and Ciara, 15, made the comments in her column in the Daily Mirror and explained that she felt in a case like Sharon and Ozzy’s, there was something more important at stake than simply having another stab at marriage.

‘In particular, I wouldn’t want my teenage daughter, Ciara, to think being mistreated by a man was acceptable. As hard as it would be to break up a home, I would want her to see me walk away so I could say to her, ‘I did that because that is not how somebody loves you.’ She added, ‘I’d have left Ozzy long ago. If only so I could look my children in the face and say, ‘This is not what is meant to happen. Marriage should be about trust and happiness.’ Coleen herself is no stranger to marriage breakdowns. In 1997 she split from her first husband, Shane Richie, 53, after she caught him cheating. They divorced in 1999.

Recently, she’s also opened up about her marriage woes with Ray, 58. Speaking at the beginning of the year, she said of their 17-year relationship, ‘We’ve hit that point where all of a sudden you think, ‘OK, we’ve lost a connection here.’’ She then added, ‘I can’t bear the thought of it [marriage] all failing again. I really love him and he’s so good. You know, we have a row and I’ll walk out and it drives him mental. I don’t feel happy sometimes.’ She then went on to explain that the couple were looking to marriage counselling to help them. But since then, Col has kept her relationship status private. We wish you all the best, guys!
