Our favourite bridal show, Say Yes To The Dress, is back – and wedding dress designer David Emanuel is taking his brides to an Oxfam bridal shop for the first episode! We caught up with the designer, 64, to find out more…
So tell me all about joining forces with Oxfam…
I know Oxfam, but I certainly didn’t know that they had a bridal section. So when they pitched it I said, ‘Oh yeah, let’s go!’ And it’s been kind of amazing, because you have a mixture of brand-new and vintage dresses. They’ve been given gowns that have been worn once, drycleaned and put on display, or samples from manufacturers, so price points are anything from £100.
There are some stunning dresses!
I was knocked out! I dressed three brides there for the one-off first episode of the series. And they all said yes!
What do you love about this show? No day is ever the same. I’m coming up with options for the brides, but at the same time I’ve got the entourage to deal with, which is tricky. It’s an emotional roller coaster!
It must be so rewarding to see the brides looking and feeling incredible… I love to see their faces when they walk out in a dress they love.
Your best piece of advice? Try to keep an open mind. Ultimately, you’ve got to be really excited about it and when you wake up you need to think, 'I can’t wait to put that dress on!'
