Eamonn ‘I’ve lost my wife’
With Ruth’s star on the rise and Eamonn a Strictly widower, can their marriage take the strain?
This Morning fans have been left questioning whether Ruth Langsford’s
Strictly Come Dancing
appearance has put a strain on her relationship with Eamonn Holmes.
Since the beginning of the BBC show, viewers have commented on the apparent tension between Ruth, 57, and her husband, accusing him of deliberately overshadowing her onscreen.
‘Eamonn, please stop talking over Ruth, it is so very rude,’ one viewer pleaded on Twitter. ‘How does Ruth put up with Eamonn? He is so rude to her and keeps talking over her,’ added another.
Some even suggested Ruth’s sudden rise in popularity could be behind their noticeably different onscreen dynamic. After all, Eamonn, also 57, has arguably always been the bigger star of the two, having secured his reputation as a veteran presenter over the years, fronting shows including Sky News’ Sunrise.
But now, with Ruth’s star ascending thanks to her Strictly appearance, Eamonn, who quit his news anchor role last year, described himself as a
‘Strictly widower’ – with insiders adding that the show has seen them undergo a big role reversal at home.
A source close to the couple told Woman’s Own, ‘The strain of Strictly is unquestionable. As with many couples, Ruth and Eamonn are separated for long periods, and while absence makes the heart grow fonder, it has understandably also presented its problems.’ ‘Ruth has been working very hard in training and has been tired. Meanwhile, at home, Eamonn is out of his comfort zone. He’s been running the house and family and is in charge of everything domestic. It’s a tricky and unusual time for them.’
Relationship shift
Eamonn recently acknowledged the shift in their relationship, confessing, ‘I am no longer Eamonn Holmes. I am Ruth-from-strictly’s husband. Without fail, folk say, ‘Where’s Ruth?’
He continued that Ruth’s gruelling training schedule means they have become ships passing in the night – so he’s bought a cardboard cut-out of the star to replace her! He said, ‘I have now lost my wife. I literally never see her, unless I tune into
Loose Women on my lunch break.’ The Irish presenter has also

‘I hope that Eamonn is green with envy’
begged his wife to slow down, writing on Twitter, ‘How do I stop her? Strictly needs to pull her batteries out!’
But Eamonn has also been non-stop, as he runs the house and looks after the couple’s son Jack, 14. ‘Jack and I are like feral cats, fending for ourselves for another week. I’m a slave to Jack’s hectic social diary, school pick-up times and sports clubs,’ he explained. This comes after Eamonn first revealed his fears about Ruth signing up to the show – famous for its ‘Strictly curse’, which is said to be responsible for a number of relationship breakdowns. Speaking about Ruth’s decision to take to the dance floor, Eamonn asked, ‘What does this mean for me? Often the partners get forgotten – and then there is the curse of Strictly…’
Ruth’s master plan
Mum-of-one Ruth has also had her say on how Strictly Come Dancing could impact their relationship, confessing that she signed up to the show to make Eamonn jealous!
After hitting it off with her professional partner, Anton Du Beke, 51, the star, who has already started to slim down thanks to her energetic routines, said, ‘I’m hoping to make Eamonn extremely jealous, that’s one of the main reasons I’m doing Strictly.
‘He’s not a jealous man, so I intend to rub myself provocatively up against any of the professional dancers who are vaguely handsome, and I hope that he is green with envy watching me,’ Ruth continued.
Judging by recent events, it sounds as if Ruth’s master plan could be coming together. But if anyone can overcome the strain that Strictly inevitably puts on a relationship, it’s daytime TV’S golden couple.
