What does early bleeding mean?

QMy daughter is expecting our first grandchild after nearly two years of trying. She is only about five weeks pregnant and phoned in a real state this morning as she has started bleeding. Her NHS doctor says it is too early to scan her and has said he will call her again next week. How would I go about getting a scan done privately? Bleeding in early pregnancy is common and doesn’t necessaril­y mean the worst. The reason her doctor isn’t arranging a scan now though is
