Istarted having trouble getting to sleep about 10 years ago. I do wake in the night too but can normally get back to sleep quickly. It’s more the dropping off initially that’s the problem. my mind goes into overdrive and I can lie in bed for up to four hours trying to sleep. It's exhausting.
I’ve tried all the advice – a hot bath before bed to relax and not looking at my phone or any technology. they helped to a degree. herbal remedies worked but left me feeling groggy the next morning. Ibuprofen seemed to help but I know it's not recommended for sleeping problems.
I do contract work, which is stressful and I don’t think that helps. but if I have several bad nights in a row, I feel exhausted and am clumsy the next day, losing focus and having to ask people to repeat things. this is especially difficult in the environment I work in as you have to pick things up very quickly.
the knock-on effect was that I ate badly too – coffee, carbs and fizzy drinks to keep me going. I’m also a really light sleeper and my partner is a snorer so nights were very long!
When I came across betteryou magnesium sleep Lotion I was a bit dubious but I’d read about magnesium being important to help you relax, so I thought it was worth a go. each night before bed I rubbed it in on my shoulders, arms and my calves where I get a bit achy and feel fatigued.
by the end of a week it had really made a difference. I was falling asleep easier – within 15 minutes rather than several hours.
I’ve been using it for three months now and while I still have the odd bad night I’m definitely sleeping better with it. I think the massage itself also helps relax me.
Who knows whether it’s psychological or not. but who cares. It has certainly helped me!’
