Get the lowdown on vitamins
Hey Like Wow’s consultant dietitian Dr Sarah Schenker talks us through three types of vitamins you need in your life
Vitamin B6
Many foods contain vitamin B6. However, there are few foods rich in vitamin B6, which means that many people may not meet the full requirement. One of its most important roles is the reduction in tiredness and fatigue.
Vitamin C
Sensitive to light, heat and cooking processes, vitamin C is easily lost from many rich food sources. It’s needed for the absorption of iron from non-meat sources such as wholegrains and vegetables.
Vitamin D
There are very few natural foods that contain vitamin D, so most people rely on fortified foods to meet the requirement. For vitamin D to be made in the skin, the skin must be exposed to UVB light of wavelengths between the range of 290 to 320 nanometres.
