There’s something about eating from a bowl that feels comforting, nourishing and simple, and Anna Lisle, author of Wholefood, bowlfood, knows it. Her new book places an emphasis on natural, wholesome and comforting ingredients such as full-fat dairy products, meat, nuts, seeds, fruits and vegetables, creating good-foryou dishes that promote health, energy and happiness.

The recipes are easy to achieve for anyone – so how did Anna come up with them? ‘I think a lot of people are quite disillusioned and confused about what is and isn’t healthy,’ she explains. ‘There’s no complicated science behind my philosophy, it’s a back-to-basics approach.’ By this, Anna means steering clear of processed food as well as hidden salts, sugar and additives. What’s left is a diet rich in whole, natural food such as whole grains, fresh vegetables and full-fat dairy.

Sounds easy – and it is! Anna recommends feeling out the process of healthy eating for yourself. It’s not a one-size-fits-all job, so it’s worth taking note of what makes you feel good – and what makes you feel bad. But once you’ve figured it out, you can really reap the rewards of these dishes. ‘Healthy eating benefits almost every aspect of our health,’ Anna adds. ‘But I want to be clear: food is there to be enjoyed, first and foremost. Food can make you strong and healthy but you first must accept yourself for who you are.’

If you’re interested in eating more healthily, check out these recipes. ‘Regardless of whether you’re trying to lose weight, get in shape or just live a healthier life, eating healthy provides a variety of benefits,’ Anna explains. ‘It has also been proven to reduce stress, increase your mood, reduce the effects of ageing and increase productivity.’ The dishes are mouthwatering and healthy, so what’s not to love?
