TALINE GABRIELIAN

-

Scroll through Taline Gabrielian’s Hippie Lane Insta feed and you might assume her recipes would come with an FSA warning, what with all the chocolate-coated bars oozing caramel, ice cream sandwiches and the like. But, believe it or not, they’re actually nutritious. ‘I was diagnosed with sensitivities to gluten, eggs, dairy, soya and refined sugar in 2011,’ she says. ‘I wasn’t going to give up the flavours I’d loved as a child, so I set about creating allergen-free alternatives.’ She tested them on family and friends before supplying eateries across her home town of Sydney, Australia, and in 2013, decided to move online. ‘At first, I just posted pictures on Instagram, but the demand was so high for the recipes, I created an app.’ It was a number one seller within a week, her followers broke the 100k mark and she got a book deal*. Standard. ‘I don’t have a background in nutrition so I’m careful not to be too prescriptive,’ says Taline. ‘Everyone has the right to eat how they want – I think we all know instinctively when something isn’t right. But at the same time, if you’re too strict, you lose the joy of life.’
