Under Guardiola, City have nominally played a 4-1-4-1, but there is huge flexibility, with the coach making changes every game. Already, the full-backs have been used in central midfeld, allowing the wingers to push up and press the opposition full-backs, while a single defensive midfielder, Fernandinho, allows for two midfield playmakers, David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne, to prompt the attacking initiatives. Ilkay Gundogan will be in contention when fit.
