Infantino must tread carefully
FIFA president Gianni Infantino escaped sanction by the ethics chamber over allegations concerning the use of private jets and exploitation of other expenses. In the end, the issues – arising while his employment contract remained unresolved – were not significant enough to bring him down.
However that close call appears to have acted as a warning shot across the bows – and one which he has heeded after his bull-in-a-china-shop early months in charge.
Staff changes have continued at FIFA, but that is commonplace when a new boss takes office. And structural re-alignments are being undertaken not only by Infantino but by new secretary-general Fatma Samoura.
