From Feyenoord’s first Dutch title in 18 years to a new champion in Croatia and several surprise promotions, we review some of the most significant stories of the season

Last season saw its fair share of triumphs for the usual suspects: Bayern Munich and Juventus retaining their titles in Germany and Italy, Real Madrid winning their first Liga title for five years and Chelsea finishing top of the Premier League once more.

But there have also been some unexpected successes: Monaco winning Ligue 1 with some fine football and Feyenoord delighting their fans by claiming a first Dutch title for 18 years.

And further down the food chain, there were title wins for Anderlecht and Spartak Moscow, and some leftfield victories, notably Rijeka breaking Dinamo Zagreb’s dominance in Croatia.
