Key dates
The league has been reduced to 10 teams, with everyone playing each other four times. The season kicked off on August 5 and early fixtures include the “Montenegrin Derby” between Sutjeska from Niksic and Buducnost of Podgorica on September 30.
Major coaching changes
Despite winning the league last season, Miodrag Vukotic left Buducnost and was replaced by Dragan Kazic. Zeta dismissed Dusan Vlaisavljevic after elimination in the Europa League and appointed his assistant, Dejan Roganovic.
Championship Challengers
Mladost from Podgorica are thought to have the best squad and they will challenge city rivals Buducnost (above).
relegation battlers
Kom, Decic and Petrovac are expected to be in a relegation battle, while last season’s runners-up Zeta could struggle after the exit of coach Vlaisavljevic and several key players.
one to watch
Although Buducnost lost to Partizan in the Champions League qualifiers, 18-year-old midfielder Vasilije Terzic impressed.
signing of the summer
Buducnost striker Radomir Djalovic fell out with the club and was released in the close season. His signature would be a coup for either Mladost or Rudar.
