Serge Aurier
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR
Spurs’ £23million acquisition from Paris Saint-Germain has all the attributes of a world-class rightback: powerful, quick, technically assured and relentless when going forward. When PSG won the domestic treble in 2016 he was outstanding, a compelling blend of the electrifying and the muscular. Unfortunately, the 24-year-old Ivorian also has something of a bad-boy reputation, receiving a suspended sentence for assaulting a police officer and earning himself a torrent of criticism for appearing to use homophobic language to insult then PSG coach Laurent Blanc. He’s not all bad though – during a World Cup qualifier against Mali he helped save the life of opposition midfielder Moussa Doumbia by making sure the latter did not swallow his tongue after being knocked unconscious.
