Feature-packed VHF radio

B&G’s new entry-level DSC VHF radio, the V20, claims to be easy to use and intuitive, and with its simple and clearly laid out front panel there seems no reason to disagree. Channel selection is via a rotary knob, and button spacing is also good. The fist mic has just four buttons, including one dedicated to Ch16.

The display, too, is clear, with black writing on a white background unless you select night mode, which inverts it to whiteon-black. There are no ‘soft buttons’ that swap functions when you look at different display pages.

The V20 can be flush- or bracket-mounted and the unit IPX7 rated, so it can be installed at the helm. It's is NMEA-2000 (N2K) compatible, which makes fitting it a cinch if you have an N2K network on board.
