Sail among Norway’s giants
Join a thrilling Norwegian adventure with an extraordinary charity that truly changes lives
An exciting new adventure for both novice and experienced sailors is being offered by extraordinary Humber-wide charity Catzero, as it launches a 13-day sailing trip from Hull to Norway and back again in June 2024. Catzero is more than a sailing charity. It uses sailing as part of much wider, long-term programmes. The funds raised from its public sails will support its work, helping people create lasting change in their lives. The charity works with people of all ages, families in crisis and veterans. It might be helping them into employment, education and training, or simply just getting their lives back on track.…
AN EPIC JOURNEY
The 72-foot Challenge yacht will begin its journey from Hull Marina before heading out to the North Sea. Highlights on the journey include Pulpit Rock (Preikestolen), Stavanger harbour and its charming Old Town, the North Sea crossing, 1,000 miles of offshore sailing, and cruising around the fjords and skerries of southern Norway. You’ll be fully involved in the sailing, including standing watches and sailing through the night to reach the Norwegian coast.
Catzero prides itself on supporting people to expand their horizons, and skilled instructors will be there to teach and support the crew at every step of the journey.
Beginners can complete the RYA Competent Crew certificate on board, and seasoned sailors can hone skills and build miles towards skippering qualifications.
There are also opportunities to sail with Catzero at other points in the year, including the 400-mile Dutch Dash, the 2025 Fastnet Race, as well corporate team-building, taster sails, day sails and bespoke packages for schools and other groups.
ADVENTURE WITH PURPOSE
Rob Simpson, a teacher from Hymers College, Hull, who has sailed with the team twice, once to Norway and once along the English south coast, said: ‘We sail with 15-17-year-olds when we take this trip with Catzero. Their communication and professionalism is superb, and their patience to involve and teach is astounding. The staff and volunteers are able to identify the different personalities within the group and adapt their strategies to maintain motivation and engagement. We can’t recommend them enough.’
Catzero skipper, sailing director, and round-theworld yachtsman, Danny Watson, said, ‘We are delighted to offer this opportunity to members of the public. The Norway sail provides you with a little bit of everything – an exhilarating challenge, friendships, a fantastic adventure, dramatic scenery, a learning experience, and you will be supporting our extraordinary charity to continue working with people in crisis across the Humber region.
‘There is always great camaraderie on the boat, and we often find that the crew stay in touch with each other afterwards. Novice and experienced sailors are all welcome on this trip of a lifetime.
