The Wally 80s Tilakkhana and Ryokan 2 get too close for comfort at a mark rounding on the fourth day of Les Voiles de St Tropez. Despite the dramatic-looking impact – and the crew’s reaction – the collision was more of a glancing blow and both yachts went on to race another day, although Tilakkhana’s bowsprit was no longer part of their downwind armoury. This year’s French Riviera regatta saw 16 Wally yachts competing – see page 36 for a full report, including insight from pro navigator Jochen Schümann. An owner skipper class, Wally makes Les Voiles its end of season finale every September.
