Clipper’s 20th anniversary
The Clipper Race celebrated its 20th anniversary in October. Over 4,000 amateur sailors have competed in its ten editions thus far, logging a cumulative distance in excess of 3.8 million nautical miles.
More than 600 guests including sailing celebrities, former crew, staff and supporters marked the anniversary with a celebration gala ball in London, which took last year’s fundraising total for official Clipper Race charity Unicef to over £300,000.
“The Clipper Race is not your average sailing competition,” said Sir Robin Knox-johnston, who established the race with CEO William Ward. “This is the only event where everyday people join together to take on Mother Nature’s toughest challenge.”
The Clipper Race starts again next summer and is already 70 per cent full.
