Beneteau Oceanis 51.1
Modern offshore racing design – in particular the new Figaro 3 (the first of which launched this summer) – has influenced the shape of the new Beneteau Oceanis 51.1. Berret Racoupeau’s stepped hull looks particularly innovative for a cruising yacht. The flared shape above the waterline creates additional interior space without changing the shape below the waterline. As with the Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 440 and 490 previewed on page 83, it is the forward owner’s cabin that makes the most of the extra space for accommodation.
Beneteau says this 51.1 is the most customisable model on the market at this size. There are four different layouts to the Nauta-designed interior, five rig plans, three different keel types, and a choice of 150 different options. Notably, there is now a ‘First Line’ performance upgrade option too, which can include up to 35 per cent additional sail area and a taller carbon mast.
