Oyster 565

-

One of the most impressive new yachts I have looked over in some years, this (currently) entry-level Oyster shows the British firm back at its very best. The previous 575 and 56 models were very popular bluewater cruisers. This replacement design by Rob Humphreys strikes a balance between protecting Oyster’s legacy and introducing fresher, cleaner modern lines and more volume.

It is a particularly well specced boat as standard with a list that incudes bow and stern thrusters and hydraulic sail handling for the double-headed rig. The quality of finish throughout is world class.

There is the option for an extended transom version with tender garage, but we are told that all owners have so far favoured the conventional hull shape, with davits for carrying a dinghy. Twin rudders leave room for spacious and deep stowage in the lazarette between the stocks. This also allows for a separate substantial bathing platform, with robust rails and ladder, so you can moor the dinghy alongside, superyacht style.

“A connection to the water and cockpit is what we tried the most to improve,” says sales director Richard Gibson.

Below decks I was particularly impressed with the clever layout, which gives plenty of space where you most want it most and includes an excellent utility cabin with integrated engine room door.

How does the 565 perform? Look out for our full test next month.
