Greta Thunberg

-

Why is there so much controversy about Greta Thunberg sailing with Riley and Elayna from Sailing La Vagabonde?

These guys are awesome.

I honestly don’t understand why a young teenager speaking up about what sort of future she wants for herself and the planet can irritate a whole generation of old guys. Maybe it’s because the world is at a crossroads and it is now that we are choosing the future path: one that pollutes and destroys, or one that sustains and regenerates.

Anyone who watches Sailing La Vagabonde on Youtube and suggests that they aren’t aligned with environmental issues perhaps hasn’t been watching very closely. It’s a bit baffling why this tie-in with Greta Thunberg would surprise anyone.

How is a giant plastic boat with two diesel engines eco-friendly. I wonder? I have watched Sailing La Vagabonde since their beginnings, and if you think this is anything other than an attempt to bolster their waning Youtube channel, you are deluding yourself.

Isn’t it ironic that environmentalists are happy with their 48ft plastic catamaran? I suspect taking into account the cost per mile per ton of carbon created over the life of the vessel it would be better for the environment if they just flew.

I watched Greta on La Vagabonde and my first thought was: black soled shoes on white decks? Aarrgh! Bill Bremner
